The American Enka Corporation took care of their workers. They provided services, such as the Enka Credit Union, training, such as the Vocational Training Program, and recreation, through the Enka Lake, athletics, and community building. For many, it was more than just a place of employment. The legacy that Enka left paints a positive picture of memories, unlike the typical American mill village which is often full of control, corruption, and unhappiness. While the relationship between the corporation and its workers was not perfect (see Labor Relations), Enka crafted a culture of caring that humanized their workers and led to a legacy of community.
